Recreation

Welcome to the Sebastian River Area, located along the beautiful Indian River Lagoon, considered North America’s most biologically diverse estuary, and conveniently across from Sebastian Inlet, Florida’s premier fishing and surfing spot on the east coast. The Sebastian River Area is not only known for being home to Pelican Island, America’s first National Wildlife Refuge, but also for its unspoiled beauty, diverse fishing- from world class bass fishing to deep-sea fishing adventures, pristine waterways perfect for kayaking, paddle boarding, and scenic pontoon & airboat tours, world famous surfing and skydiving, and abundant birding and wildlife viewing. Our area is also well known for the rare antiquities that have washed upon its shores. The shipwreck from the 1715 Spanish Plate Fleet left many treasures along Sebastian’s coast. Treasure hunters continue to search our waters for gold, jewelry, and other artifacts lost in history. The Indian River Lagoon National Scenic Byway, which is 233 miles, encompasses the entire Sebastian River Area including Fellsmere. The Byway was designated a Scenic Highway because of the great historical, natural and recreational resources for explorers of all ages. As you travel the byway, you'll be taken back by the unique and diverse habitat, special places and breathtaking scenery that await you. From Simple Pleasures to Authentic Treasures, we invite you to discover the natural splendor and rich history of the Sebastian River Area!
