Assignments and Committees:
Ad Hoc By Law Review Committee: This committee will review the by-laws, and recommend changes for the Board's consideration, as needed.
Nominating Committee: This committee is responsible for recruiting, and selecting nominees for the Board of Directors. The committee will provide the names of nominees to the Executive Director no later than July15th of any year. The President shall appoint the committee and designate the Chairman.
Membership Committee: The purpose of this committee is to support the membership division of the chamber, recommend membership policies to the board and recommend programs and services which support the member. Additionally, the committee will help recruit new members and retain existing members. The committee will meet quarterly.
Tourism Committee: The committee is responsible for "encouraging the growth of tourism". The Committee generally meets every other month, and three times a year host the Joint Tourism Committee with Indian River County Chamber. The committee will provide input for the Chamber web site, advise staff on tourism programs, and perform other tasks, which promote tourism in our area.
Economic Development Committee: The purpose of the committee is to encourage business development. The committee's specific goal this year will be to create an ambassador program for businesses looking to relocate into the Sebastian River area. Additionally, the chair holds a position on the IRC Economic Development Council, an advisory board to the County Commissioners.
Ambassador's Program: The Chamber's Ambassadors assist new members at Chamber meetings, events and functions and assist the Membership Director with special functions. This committee meets prior to every monthly luncheon.
Building Committee: The purpose of this committee is to address the space needs and capital improvements of the Chamber building. The committee will determine the space needs, develop and implement fund raising goals over the next five years and supervise building projects.
Budget Committee: The Budget Committee is comprised of the Executive Board Members, for the purpose of reviewing the budget as prepared by the Executive Director and adopt it, and submit it to the Board of Directors in the September Board meeting for full approval.
Legislative Committee: This Committee, comprised of Chamber members at large, will be responsible for supporting the Chamber efforts with Candidates Forums, legislative trips to Tallahassee, and other events which deal with legislative matters that are important to Chamber members. Additionally, this committee is responsible for candidate forums held prior to elections. This committee will meet quarterly.
Fundraisers:
Golf Tournament: An annual event for the Chamber's operating funds, traditionally held in May of each year, the golf tournament provides an opportunity for businesses and the chamber to raise money and network on the golf course.
Media Auction: This event has become our largest fundraiser of the year, earning money for operating costs of the Chamber. The event is designed to provide advertising opportunities to our Chamber members who do not have large resources for marketing, and to link them with media services. Additionally, a silent auction compliments the event.
Flats Fishing Tournament: This committee organizes a tournament emphasizing the unique fishing in the lagoon and river, and combines the fishing community with children. Take a Child Fishing theme is an important component, and the Chamber collaborates with various groups to include underprivileged children in the tournament. The tournament is held in November, which is a great time of year to fish, and a slow time in the Tourism industry.
Special Events:
Installation Dinner: The Annual Installation Dinner is a chance for Chamber members to come together in a dress up event, usually held in an upscale restaurant in the area, we provide entertainment, and officially install our new board members for the coming year, this event is held in late November, after the election results and retreat.
Light Up Night: A long time Chamber tradition for the holidays, businesses decorate their location, and the community comes out to sample goodies and visit with each business.
Santa Sail In: In collaboration with the Jr. Women's Club and the City of Sebastian, the Chamber coordinates a parade with Santa so he can visit with the children of Sebastian prior to the holiday.
Art Show: A child of the 75th Anniversary, this event is held in collaboration with the City of Sebastian, to provide a cultural event to the Sebastian area community by bringing a juried art show, with music and food to the park in January.
Concerts in the Park: The City of Sebastian contracts with the Chamber to hold free concerts in the Park. Our corporate sponsors are Chamber members who are included in all advertising and promotion.
