Surrounded by the salty breezes of the Atlantic Ocean and briny water of the Indian River Lagoon and St. Sebastian River, the city of Sebastian is conveniently located in Indian River County, approximately midway through the east coast of the Florida Peninsula between Melbourne and Vero Beach in an area known as the Treasure Coast. Being centrally located on the east coast of Florida, we are only 25 miles from Melbourne International Airport, just 85 miles southeast of Orlando International Airport and various Orlando attractions and just 95 miles north of West Palm Beach and Palm Beach International Airport. Our area is easily accessibly by air, boat or car, the tucked away friendly fishing village communities of the Sebastian River Area are the perfect escape for ecotourism and active lifestyle living.
How to get here:
The Sebastian River area is serviced by four airports, depending on where you are coming from. Orlando International Airport and West Palm Beach airport are only an hour and a half drive away, and the Melbourne International Airport is most conveniently located for a twenty minute drive to our area. The Sebastian River Area is also serviced by the City of Sebastian's Municipal Airport. For private transportation needs, call 772-581-0111 or visit www.sebastianairport.com.
If you are traveling by boat, the Intracoastal Waterway winds through our area and can be navigated through the Ft. Pierce Inlet or the Cape Canaveral Inlet. The nearby Sebastian Inlet provides anchorage opportunities to enjoy the beautiful sunrises and sunsets and easy access to the Sebastian Inlet State Park. There are plenty of marinas and boat slips for an overnight stay. For more information on marinas, click here and for waterfront lodging, click here.
Driving into the Sebastian River Area from the north, take I-95 south and exit at Sebastian/Fellsmere Exit #156 (old # 69). Turn right on CR 512 to get to Fellsmere (about 3 miles west of the exit) and turn left to head towards Sebastian on CR 512 about 9 miles east of the exit. Specially note that the east/west roadway has several names, depending on where you are on the roadway. In Sebastian city limits, it's called Sebastian Blvd., in the unincorporated areas it's known as CR 512 or Fellsmere Rd., nevertheless it's the main east/west corridor for the area. Driving in from the south on I-95, take the same exit and head east for Sebastian and west to get to Fellsmere.
You can also approach the Sebastian River Area by car on U.S. Highway 1 from either the south through the Vero Beach area or the north from Brevard County. The drive from the Melbourne area along U.S. Highway 1 is part of the Indian River Lagoon National Scenic Byway and provides one of the most beautiful scenes on the east coast as it travels along the Indian River lagoon. The IRLNSB has been designated as a segment of the Florida Scenic Highway Program, due to the spectacular vistas of the lagoon and the historical significance of the highway and is one of two nationally designated byways in Florida. As you travel along U.S. Highway 1, you will arrive into the heart of the City of Sebastian and the beautiful riverfront district.
From the west coast of Florida, you can drive through the Fellsmere area via State Road 60 or take State Road 70 from the Florida turnpike up to the Interstate 95 and exit 156.
